Lifelong learning at VT

As a part of VT, we had an opportunity to present our lab for lifelong learning participants. [Link to Lifelong Learning at VT]

Kuya has presented his human-robot interaction project in collaboration with Daniel Kish. Luan and Chris demonstrated fetch robot and husky. Finally, Dr. Furukawa had a presentation followed by Q&A session. They really enjoyed the visit and had told us the visit was amazing.

Daniel Kish collaboration visit to CMS

Dr. Furukawa is hosting Daniel Kish for the seminar “Human Echolocation” on 02/05/2016.

Daniel leads group hike with photo credit
Speaker: Mr. Daniel Kish, President, World Access for the Blind
When: Friday, February 5, 6:00 – 7:00PM
Where: Quillen Family Auditorium, Goodwin Hall, Virginia Tech
635 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24061
Admission: Free

Daniel Kish has been blind since he was 13 months old, but has learned to “see” using a form of echolocation. He clicks his tongue and sends out flashes of sound that bounce off surfaces in the environment and return to him, helping him to construct an understanding of the space around him. In a rousing talk, Kish demonstrates how this works and asks us to let go of our fear of the “dark unknown.” (TED2015, March 2015)
